Dr. Michael Stein, MB ChB, B Sc (Hons), D Phil is an entrepreneur in health and is passionate about being an impactful healer. He earned a doctorate in Physiological Sciences from the University of Oxford (Lincoln College) as a Rhodes Scholar before becoming a JRF in Medicine at Trinity College, Between 1988-1996 he described the alternative pathway of macrophage activation, which defined a new cell phenotype, taught medical students as a p/t lecturer at Balliol College, and co-wrote a handbook called the Hands-on Guide for House Officers (Blackwell Science) for first-time doctors (selling 100,000+ copies over five editions). His later entrepreneurial career includes:

• Creating the first nationally licensed set of clinical algorithms, called the Map of Medicine, now called NHS Pathways after the software platform was sold to Hearst Inc. (2008)

• Founded a novel telemedicine platform called Doctor Care Anywhere (2012 –2015) before fully exiting at IPO in 2020

• Helping the University of Helsinki spin out a biotech company (2015) called Valo Therapeutics, which promises to deliver new cancer therapies.

In 2020, Michael founded Added Health in memory of his friend and colleague, Dr Satish Keshav, and is dedicated to transforming the way every one of us manages our health.
